We all know the children’s show ‘Dragon Tales,’ right? The show about the 2 kids who would go into Dragon Land and go on adventures with their dragon pals. Have you ever wondered why they would always rather be in Dragon Land than play in the comfort of their own home?
Because there was no comfort. Dragon Land wasn’t real. The kids knew this, but couldn’t (wouldn’t?) accept it. When their alcoholic, abusive father would be home, arguments would break out between him and their mother. The arguments often turned physical. With nothing to muffle the sounds of their mother being beaten, the children developed their own imaginary world. A world where they would feel safe and comfortable. “Dragon Land” was the only escape from the harsh reality.
